Managing tasks with Things 3
After testing many todo apps, I managed to find my task management system with Cultured Code’s Things 3 since 2018.
Here’s a quick list of why Things 3 is my top choice for managing my tasks.
- Beautiful Design While it’s been nearly 5 years since the launch of Things 3, the app design holds.
- Minimal color palette
- Friendly icons
- Simple UI
- Swipe Gestures Aside from beautiful subtle animations, Cultured Code put careful thought in swipe gestures.
- Swipe down anywhere for search
- Swipe to the right to reveal the sidebar
- Swipe left to go into selection mode
- Swipe right on a task to set a date
-
GTD Method Things 3 follows Getting Things Done principles. Capture in Inbox, sort tasks for Today, Anytime or Someday. The app encourages GTD but you can make it work for your own system.
-
Speed The app is fast whether you input tasks, schedule/move them, searching or even the app launch.
-
iOS Integration Things 3 has support for deep links. Meaning you can grab a project or todo deep link and paste into another app for quick reference. Plus Shortcuts + Siri support which makes inputting tasks even easier.
-
Markdown support! Each todo contains a notes section for more details or information. Since search is fast, I can look up past todos with useful pieces of info.
Things 3 is not perfect but it’s nearly there. In a later post, I’ll talk about a few areas of improvement.
